Susan Fine's Obituary
Susan Jo Fine, born August 5, 1944, to Carl and Bernice (Greenberg) Fine in Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully at a hospice board-and-care facility in Ventura on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Susan attended Los Angeles High School and graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s degree in sociology. She later furthered her education at California Lutheran University, earning a Master’s degree and becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Susan served as a director of Ventura County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and was instrumental in securing its initial funding. She was subsequently employed by Ventura County Behavioral Health.
Susan moved to the California high desert with her husband, Rick Poe, where they purchased property, designed and built a home for their retirement, and continued to enjoy aviation pursuits that had drawn them together in 1993.
Susan was an avid reader, dearly loved cooking and baking, and especially enjoyed classic movies. She gave far more than she received and quietly, without contention, pursued her own course in life while being spiritually grounded in the love of Christ.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bernice; her sister, Lee Ann Watts; and her first husband, Robert Heyman. She is survived by her husband, Rick Poe of Mojave, California; her three children, Ross Heyman of Johnson City, Tennessee, Nathan Heyman of Chico, California, and Yvonne Ackison of Eagle Point, Oregon; her stepdaughter, Allison Poe of Newbury Park, California; her brother-in-law, Ron Watts of Long Beach, California; her niece, Caren Fontes of Long Beach, California; her nephew, David Watts of Fairbanks, Alaska; and her grandchildren, Kristina, Alexis, Sidra Bee, Nicholas, Alex, Vicky, and Laura.
