Stephen Dion Houston Sr.'s Obituary
Stephen Dion Houston was born on January 23, 1965 in Los Angeles, California. He was the son of Barbara Houston Journet and Clarence Banks. He passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025 at the age of 60. Stephen was raised by his mother in the houshold with two sisters; Danielle Penny (Jim) and Tracy Journet. The family lived in Ventura and Oxnard. He attended local schools. He graduated from Hueneme High School and Oxnard College, and attended California State University of Los Angeles. He was an athlete who excelled in basketball and track and field.Stephen had a daughter Klah; two sons- Stephen Jr. and Darren; and a step daughter Britnee. He also had six grandchildren. He cherished them all deeply. Before retiring, he worked as Building Interior Specialist at the County of Ventura where he met and married the love of his life, Gloria Martinez. She faithfully remained at his side until he was called home by the Lord. Also in his life were Phillip Mose, who was like a father to him and Darrick Mose who was like a brother.Stephen was also blessed in that he had a second family on his father's side. In that group he had a loving grandmother, aunts, three additional siblings and a host of cousins. Also among his many blessings was his church family. He was dedicated to the Lord and committed to helping everyone that he could. Anyone who knew him can attest to his fair, honest, and generous nature. He volunteered in the community as a youth coach in football and track and field. He loved providing encouragement to young people. He will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.He is survived by his wife Gloria, his daughters and sons, grandchildren, mother, siblings, nieces and nephews, his uncle Richard and aunt Brenda, and many cousins and other relatives.
