Pauline James' Obituary
Pauline (Borjon) James passed away at home on February 11, 2025 after a 5 year battle with multiple myeloma and kidney failure. She was a loving wife to Gary James for 34 years prior to his passing in 2004. Together, they shared three children.
Born on November 10, 1952 in Oxnard, California, Pauline was the first born to Candelario and Margaret Borjon. She was a dedicated older sister, and often "second mother", to her 10 younger siblings. She graduated from Channel Islands High School where she met the love of her life, Gary. Pauline spent the first half of her professional career at Bank of A. Levy where she worked her way to become a branch manager. She spent the second half of her career working for the County of Ventura Human Services Agency as an eligibility worker.
Over the years, Pauline immersed herself in various crafts and hobbies, including cake decorating, sewing, ceramic/porcelain painting, and baking. "Pauline's Carrot Cake" will always be a family favorite. She was also a member of Oxnard Soroptimist and board member at Northside LIttle League where she served as President and Treasurer. However, above all her interests and pastimes, she was most proud of her family and loved her grandchildren dearly.
During a family trip to Hawaii in 1992, Pauline and Gary discovered a love of the islands that led to many more visits over the years. After Gary passed away, Pauline continued regular visits to Hawaii with many family and friends. Unfortunately, in recent years, these visits stopped due to her illness and dialysis needs,
Pauline will be lovingly remembered by her children, Tina James of Madras, OR, Monica James (Blas Hernandez) of Camarillo, CA, and Gary James II (Justina James) of Oxnard, CA. She will be greatly missed by her 13 grandchildren, Kasia, Marcus, Jasmine, Alexis, Melissa, Deja, Kenton, Destiny, James, Connor, Jackson, Ethan, (her favorite) Ava and her 5 great-grandchildren, Kingston, Marilyn, Evalyn, Bryson, and Kamden. Pauline was honored to be godmother to Sonji Huerta Moreland, Mike Arrizon, Roxanna Ibarra, and Pete Martinez.
Pauline is survived by her siblings Margie Borjon-Miller (Jeff), Virgie McClendon (Dan), Gloria Howell (Mike), Alice Ortiz (Joe), Annie Martinez (Richard), Jess Borjon (Laura), Frank Borjon (Kelly), Julie Miller (Chet) and Adriana Deanda (Adam). She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law Nancy Ius (Rick) and Kristi Gaffery (Michael) and 22 nieces and nephews.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Gary James, her parents, Candelario and Margaret Borjon, her brother, Candelario Borjon Jr., and her parents-in-law, Kenneth and Evelyn James.
Pauline was a symbol of strength, selflessness, and determination to everyone she loved and that loved her in return.
Donations can be made in her honor to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association. The family thanks their hospice team, Julia, Amy, Paula, and Selina who lovingly cared for Pauline and family in her last days. Her children are also eternally grateful to her sister Julie, brother-in-law Chet and nieces Katherine and Elizabeth for welcoming her into their home in her final years.
Her memorial service will take place at Ivy Lawn Funeral Home 1075 E. Daily Dr. Camarillo, CA 93010 on Saturday, March 1st at 11:00 am. Hawaiian shirts and tropical attire are encouraged.
