Nancy Lou Penner's Obituary
Nancy Lou Penner (nee Zehnpfennig), 90, of Camarillo, California, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 19, 1934, in Parkston, South Dakota.Nancy's family moved to Orange County and settled in Fullerton. She attended Fullerton High School, Fullerton Junior College and earned a BA from UCLA. It was at UCLA that she met her future husband, Jerry Penner. They started their family in Wasco, and then moved to Camarillo in 1966.She was a loving mother, caring deeply for the rearing of her three children. She was a supportive grandmother, overjoyed in the presence of her grandchildren. She was a great-grandmother that anyone would envy, always wanting to know how the children were doing, and craving pictures. From sporting events to dance recitals, plays and more, she made sure to attend as many events as possible to show her support and love for her family.Nancy was a dedicated educator, having served as a teacher at Wasco High School and as a substitute teacher at Camarillo High School for 30 years. She touched the lives of many students throughout her career.She will be remembered for her love of playing bridge with friends, volunteering at the church and Camarillo Library Bookstore, and her epic Super Bowl parties! Her passion for camping, cruising and traveling the world brought joy to her family. She loved visiting new places to learn the culture and history. She also enjoyed meeting many new, interesting and fun people along the way.Nancy is survived by her sister, Janet Hart; her children, Julie Thomas, Daniel Penner, and Tricia Penner; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Penner, her sister Doris Winter, and her brother Kenneth Zehnpfennig.Viewing will be held at Ivy Lawn Funeral Home in Camarillo on Friday, May 17, from 5:00 pm followed by a Rosary and Vigil mass at 6:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary Magdalen Church on Las Posas Road on May 18 at 10:30 am, followed by internment at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo at 12:00 pm. A gathering for sharing memories will be hosted at the residence after the internment.The family requests that donations be made in Nancy's memory to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Camarillo in lieu of flowers.Ivy Lawn Funeral Home in Camarillo, California, is assisting with the funeral arrangements.
