Margie B. Morris' Obituary
Margie B. Morris died in her sleep at home on the evening of August 1, 2024.She was born on December 31, 1927, to Lloyd and Media Groves in Bell Co. Texas, the second of three children.A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her children: Katherine; Robert and wife Vickie; and Herbert and wife Janie; and her grandchildren; Pollyann and husband Kendall; and Gareth.Growing up in Oklahoma, she was considered a tomboy, liking to do more of the things that boys were supposed to do. However, at that time, her brothers only allowed her to make but not participate in the paper airplane fights they had with their friends.She graduated from Vallejo High School, the city to where her family moved during WW2. She went to work as a clerk in Mare Island Naval Shipyard as nobody around her considered college. She met and married George Morris in Vallejo and his work took them to Seattle, WA; Dahlgren, VA; and Ventura Co., CA in 1954. When her youngest son was in 2nd. grade, she started taking classes at the Ventura College receiving her AA degree in 1973. She was several times the President of the Pt. Mugu Professional Wives Club (Missiles Missus), worked in the County Home Advisor's office, the Navy at Pt. Hueneme, and County DA's Office.She gave her all to whatever she did whether it was knitting, crocheting, embroidering, making wedding cakes, origami, tailoring, and making exquisite dresses for her granddaughter. Several of her creations won ribbons in the Ventura County Fair.Margie always had a yearning for foreign places. In the 1990's she and George took a 6-week train tour of Mexico. After Georges' passing, she took cruises and traveled extensively: China, Mongolia, Russia, Europe, Alaska, around the tip of South America, Canada, always taking family with her.She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George W. Morris Jr.Memorial Service Information:There will be a private family graveside service in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
