James Allen Owens' Obituary
James Allen Owens, age 80, of Ventura, CA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 11/25/2025, surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, respected businessman, and faithful servant in ministry.
Born on 10/08/1945 to his parents James Carl and Joyce Jewell Owens, Jim grew up between Tennessee and California. He married the love of his life, Virdena (Dena) and together they shared 45 years of unwavering commitment, partnership, and joy before her tragic passing in 2013. Their marriage was a true example of faithfulness and grace.
A proud father, Jim poured his heart into raising both his biological and adopted “chosen children”. He, along with Dena, believed love was not limited by blood, and his home was a place of belonging and safety. He is survived by his brother Michael Owens and children Dean & Audra Owens, Micheal & Tiffany Owens, Tevin & Arianna Owens, Elijah Owens and Christina Owens, who each carry forward his strength, compassion, and devotion to family.
He was a dedicated grandfather and great-grandfather who delighted in every milestone—big or small. His grandchildren will remember his stories, his laugh, and his steady presence that made them feel deeply loved.
As business owners in Ventura and Ojai, Jim and Dena were known for their work ethic, service and willingness to help others. Whether it be a restaurant or franchise endeavor or their construction and fabrication business, their entrepreneurial passions kept them in Ventura County for over 50 years. Jim led with honesty, treated people with respect, and believed that success meant blessing others through ministry opportunities.
Beyond his professional life, Jim faithfully served in the community for many years. He counseled families, officiated weddings, prayed with the hurting, and encouraged people through the hope of the Gospel. He had a shepherd’s heart and a genuine love for people. His efforts with Mercy Ministries outreached globally, as board president with the Rescue Mission Alliance served multiple California counties and in multiple roles at Mission Church had impact locally.
His life celebration will be held on December 9, 2025 6pm at City Church in Ventura. All are welcome to attend and honor the legacy of a man who lived his life with humility, faith, and love.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Rescue Mission Alliance, reflecting Jim’s long passion and dedication to serving others in need.
As we grieve his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of the Lord, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
